The Posseltslust - Waldschenke Tour from Neckargemünd's Old Town.
Starting point: Neckargemünd train station.
It's easy to get there by S-Bahn, the city train from Heidelberg. Sometimes, we also do this tour starting from Heidelberg - we're happy to tell you where to meet and how to get there.
1. Posseltslust (6.94 km): Posseltslust is an observation tower near Heidelberg’s historic hilltop hamlet Kohlhof. It offers a beautiful view stretching all the way to the Dilsberg and Katzenbuckel mountains.
2. Heidelberg Castle (14.3 km): Worth visiting at any time of day and in any weather.
3. Stephanskloster (St. Stephan Monastery) with observation tower (18.9 km): The former St. Stephan Monastery is a ruin on the Heiligenberg mountain. It was built in 1090 by Benedictine monk Arnold. It offers a wonderful view of the Neckar valley and Heidelberg’s old town.
4. Waldschenke (19.5 km): The inn is idyllically situated in the middle of the forest.
5. Thingstätte (19.8 km): An open-air theater modeled after ancient Greek theaters.
6. Zollstock (21.1 km): It’s worth taking a break at this saddle to enjoy the view of the castle.
7. Neckargemünd station: Take the S-Bahn city train back or walk along the bank of the Neckar toward Heidelberg.

Difficult tour. Excellent physical condition required. Advanced cycling skills necessary. If you start in Neckargemünd, the tour covers a distance of 8.07 km from Heidelberg. The starting point of the tour is accessible by public transportation.
Rhododendron garden, giant sequoias, and the Three-Trough Fountain in Heidelberg-Weststadt.
Starting point: Steigerweg, at the corner of Gaisbergstraße and Eisengreinweg. The route heads up Steigerweg.
1. View across the Rhine valley to the Palatinate Forest (1.62 km): The view is stunning; first rest stop.
2. Bierhelderhof farmstead (4.54 km): If you'd like, you can take your next break here under the chestnut trees.
3. Arboretum II (5.13 km): Information boards explain the origins of these exotic trees.
4. The bank with the wolf (5.49 km): The next break won't be until the next stop.
5. Rhododendron garden in Heidelberg’s city forest (6.53 km): A view across to the Heiligenberg mountain and the majestic rhododendrons, which were once imported from Japan when they were still very small.
6. Giant Sequoias (6.81 km): Giant sequoias, an information board, and a totem pole.
7. Forest hut at Sprunghöhe saddle (6.87 km): General Tilly camped here; in 1622, during the Thirty Years' War, he besieged and captured Heidelberg.
8. Three-Trough Fountain (8.90 km): One of 33 fountains in Heidelberg!

Heidelberg from above: Philosophenweg, Stephanskloster monastery, Heidenloch pit, Thingstätte.
Start: Neuenheim neighborhood, at the corner of Bergstraße, then up Philosophenweg, the “Philosophers’ Walk”.
1. Philosophenweg (1.4 km): A breathtaking view over Heidelberg all the way to the Rhine valley.
2. Fuchsrondell viewpoint (2.4 km): Great view of the old town, the Old Bridge, and the castle on the other side of the Neckar.
3. Stephanskloster monastery and Heidenloch (3.24 km): Ruins of a monastery with an observation tower and, next to it, the Heidenloch (a well).
4. Thingstätte (3.91 km): An open-air theater modeled after ancient Greek theaters.
5. Mausbachwiese (6.6 km): A peaceful, beautiful clearing in the middle of the forest. Alkaline grassland with a high diversity of species.
6. Haarlass viewpoint (10.0 km): From here, you can admire Heidelberg from a different perspective.
7. Upper Philosophenweg (13.8 km): Runs parallel to the lower Philosophenweg and offers wonderful views.

Apple Blossom Trail – Wilhelmsfeld – Ziegelhausen. From Heidelberg-Weststadt/Südstadt neighborhood.
Start: Weststadt/Südstadt neighborhood. The route heads toward the Neuenheim/Handschuhsheim neighborhood.
1. Handschuhsheim castle / ruins - Tiefburg Heidelberg (3.86 km): Tiefburg are the ruins of a medieval moated castle.
2. Friedenskirche (Protestant) in Handschuhsheim (4.1 km): The Friedenskirche is a Protestant church that was built between 1908 and 1910 according to plans by Hermann Behaghel.
3. View of the vineyards (10.5 km): A well-maintained bike path that passes by Schriesheim’s Strahlenburg castle ruins. The perfect section to speed up!
4. Apple Blossom Trail (17.5 km): It feels a bit like a ride through the Alps.
5. Wilhelmsfeld - Ziegelhausen (27.1 km): A beautiful ascent to the Langer Kirschbaum forest parking lot (495 m).
6. Heidelberg's Liebesstein (38.9 km): This massive sandstone rock stands below Nepomuk Terrace on the north side of the Old Bridge.
7. Old Bridge, Heidelberg (39.2 km): A stone bridge built by Elector Charles Theodore (1786–1788).
