International Science Festival – Geist Heidelberg:
From October 24 to November 28, the DAI Heidelberg invites you to this year’s International Science Festival “Geist Heidelberg” under the motto “Across Borders” (“Über Grenzen”). Borders provide orientation – and invite us to question them. They create order, define responsibility and shape identity. Yet every border is also a threshold: it separates and connects, limits and opens up new possibilities.
From October to the end of November 2026, renowned scientists, seasoned experts, well-known science communicators and talented young researchers will discuss the pressing questions of our time with an interested audience. Experience national and international research up close – science has been brought out of the institutions and into the DAI Heidelberg!

75 Years of IFFMH – The Big Anniversary!
The International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg (IFFMH) discovers and supports young filmmakers from all over the world. The festival is a unique platform for cultural, political and social dialogue through the art of film – and has been since 1952, making it Germany’s festival with the longest tradition after the Berlinale.
From November 5 to 15, 2026, the festival celebrates a special anniversary: the 75th edition of the International Film Festival! Three quarters of a century of film history, encounters and great discoveries. More than a look back, it is a fresh start. The pink carpet will be rolled out for the anniversary edition in November, with a cultural program for the entire metropolitan region that is as diverse as the IFFMH itself. Under the motto “Imagine Futures!”, friends and partners from education, social affairs and culture have launched a wide range of fascinating events. The focus is on what lies ahead: visions of the future in film, art and society, the big questions of our time and new, encouraging perspectives.

Experience one of Germany’s most beautiful Christmas markets!
November 23 to December 22, 2026. On an Advent stroll, besides the picturesque lanes and sights, you’ll discover numerous stalls spread across various squares in the old town, offering enchanting gift ideas.
Kornmarkt: With more than 100 sparkling fir trees, white peaked tents and a lovingly decorated nativity scene, the Heidelberg “Winterwäldchen” (winter forest) is a very special experience. A wide variety of culinary delights, handmade crafts and the children’s train invite you to linger. Anatomiegarten: In front of the monument to the chemist Robert Bunsen, festively decorated huts invite you to stop by. Karlsplatz: The atmospheric ice landscape guarantees skating fun on real ice in a unique setting. With a dreamlike view of Heidelberg Castle, you can enjoy plenty of Christmas treats on the square. Marktplatz: The wooden Christmas village around the Hercules Fountain presents a unique attraction: a wooden Great Tun with a rotating figure of Perkeo, Heidelberg’s mascot, on its roof.
